Combine your items into a drink or a dish and see what one serving costs you.

The short version

A recipe lists the items in one drink or dish and works out what a serving costs you. You build it on the New recipe page, and each ingredient is an item from your Items library.

01

Before you start

You need Can edit on Price list. A recipe prices from its ingredients' costs, so fill those in first, or add an ingredient from the picker as you go.

02

Steps

  1. Open Recipes. It sits in the Libraries group of the sidebar.
  2. Click New recipe.
  3. Type the recipe's name in Name.
  4. Under The build, click Add ingredient.
  5. Click "Select ingredient…" on the new row and pick an item. You can search by name.
  6. Type the Amount and choose the Unit.
  7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for each ingredient. A line under each row takes a prep note, such as "freshly squeezed".
  8. In the Details panel, set Makes to the number of servings the whole build yields.
  9. Click Add recipe.

Saving adds an item to your Item Library, filed under Recipes. A food recipe goes under Food Recipes. You set its price and stock there, and its cost comes from the ingredients.

Read the cost

Back on Recipes, each card shows the cost per serving. The list view has Cost/serving and Sell columns. The cost is the whole build divided by Makes. A cocktail makes 1, and a gallon of punch might make 25.

Sell is a suggested price. It takes the cost, adds your contingency buffer, applies the recipe's own markup, or your Items markup when it has none, and rounds up to the next quarter dollar. It shows only when every ingredient is priced. Set your markups and contingency buffer covers the numbers behind it.

Copy a ready-made recipe

The Browse Library tab holds starter recipes. Click Add to my book to copy one into My Recipes. Its ingredients come along, and your copy is yours to edit. Check each ingredient's cost against your own.

Something look off?

Work through each check in order. Most fixes take under a minute.

A recipe shows an unpriced ingredient
  1. 1 · Read the "unpriced" note on the card. It counts the ingredients with no price.
  2. 2 · Open each of those items in Items and enter a cost above $0. Replace guessed costs on your items shows how.
  3. 3 · If the cost is there, check the unit. A line prices only when its unit converts to the way the item is priced.
An ingredient is missing from the picker
  1. 1 · Check whether it is already in this build. The picker leaves out what the recipe already holds.
  2. 2 · Check that the item is not archived. The picker does not offer a retired item for a new pick.
  3. 3 · If the item does not exist yet, click Create new ingredient… at the bottom of the picker, then fill in Name, Default unit and Category and click Add ingredient.
