Replace guessed costs on your items

Find items still carrying a starting estimate or a $0 cost, and type in what you really pay.

The short version

A cost EventSage guessed flows into every price built on that item. The app marks its own starting guesses, and you replace each with what you really pay.

01

How a guess shows up

  • Estimated marks an item whose cost is still a guess. A new account's starter items carry one, and so does an item an import priced at a cost the AI guessed. The mark appears on the row and as a filter pill with a count.
  • Needs a cost marks an item whose cost is $0, so any price worked out from that cost comes out too low.
  • Estimated by AI and AI assumed appear on the import review screen. The first means the AI guessed a cost the file never stated. The second means it found no unit or cost and used "each" and $0.
  • A recipe card says how many of its ingredients are "unpriced", and the Needs a price pill lists those recipes.

Steps

  1. Open Items. It sits under Settings, then Libraries.
  2. Click the Estimated pill in the filter row above the list. It shows only while some items are estimated.
  3. Click an item to open its editor.
  4. On the Cost & price tab, type what you really pay in the cost field. Its label follows the category, for example Each one costs you or That container costs you.
  5. Click Done.
The filter row above the Items list with the Estimated and Needs a cost pills and their counts.

The editor saves as you type, and typing a cost clears the Estimated mark. It clears even when you type the number the estimate already showed, because typing says you checked it. Clearing the field to $0 sends the item to Needs a cost instead.

Fix items at $0

Click the Needs a cost pill instead of Estimated, then follow steps 3 to 5.

04

Replace a cost the import guessed

On the review screen, type the real cost into the box on any row marked Estimated by AI or AI assumed, then apply the import. If you apply it as it stands, the item keeps the guessed cost with no cost entered. An item the import prices at a guessed cost above $0 shows Estimated in Items until you type a cost. A later price sheet that states a real cost above zero replaces the guess.

A cost you typed in the editor stays put. So does a cost from an earlier price sheet or one SageAI added in chat. Recipes and bar tools are left out of that replacement and never show Estimated.

05

Check what a cost touches

Before you change a cost, look at the Used in column. Every bundle and recipe that uses the item changes with it.

Something look off?

Work through each check in order. Most fixes take under a minute.

A recipe still shows an unpriced ingredient
  1. 1 · Open Recipes and hover "unpriced" on the recipe card. The tip names the ingredients with no price.
  2. 2 · Open each named ingredient in Items and enter its cost above $0.
  3. 3 · If the cost is there, check the units. A recipe line prices only when its unit converts to the way the item is priced. A line measured in cups of an item priced by weight needs the item's A cup of this weighs field.
