A smart field is a spot in a proposal's text that EventSage fills in for each client, such as their name, the event date or their company. The list is built in, so you can insert a field but not add, rename or edit one. Fields fill from the project the proposal is linked to, and Start a new proposal shows how to link one.
Insert a field in a Designed proposal
- In the design editor, click a text box on the page.
- Under Smart fields, click Insert smart field.
- Pick a field. The text box shows it in double braces, such as {{client.first_name}}, and the client sees its value instead.
Insert a field in a Dynamic proposal
- Click the text you want to change. The text toolbar opens.
- Click Smart field.
- Pick a row. Each row shows the value it has for this lead.
Typing @ in the text opens the same list, and a one-line box in a block's settings has a Field button that opens it too.
See what each editor offers
- Designed
- Offers Client name, Client first name, Client email, Client company, Event name, Event type, Event date, Venue name, Venue address, Guest count, Service hours, Total, Subtotal, Business name, Business email and Today's date.
- Dynamic
- Offers Client first name, Client last name, Client company, Partner first name, Event date, Service window, Event hours, Guest count, Venue name, Service style, Business name and Your first name.
Both editors insert the same spelling, and an older one such as {{client_first}} keeps working.
See how a field prints
- Client first name
- The first word of the contact's name, or the event's client name with no contact. "The Smith Family" prints as "there".
- Event date
- Includes the weekday, as in "Saturday, August 15, 2026".
- Venue name
- The venue's name, or the event's address with no venue linked.
- Event hours
- In a Dynamic proposal prints "6 hours". Service hours in a Designed proposal prints "6".
Get a company onto the proposal
Client company prints the Company saved on the client's contact. A lead form fills it when you point a question at it.
- Open Forms and open your lead form.
- If the form has no company question, click Short Answer in the Elements tab to add one.
- Click the company question and open The answer goes to.
- Set Smart field to Company. Changes save automatically.
A new contact gets the answer. An existing contact gets it only when their Company is blank, so a lead form never overwrites what you typed.
EventSage reads the company each time the client opens the proposal, so a change to the contact also shows on proposals you already sent. With no company saved, the field prints blank, and Before you send warns you on a Dynamic proposal.
Something look off?
Work through each check in order. Most fixes take under a minute.
Client company prints blank
- 1 · Check the proposal's project has a contact. A project with none shows Convert to Contact at the top of its page, which needs the client's email.
- 2 · Open the contact in Contacts, click Edit contact, type the Company and click Save changes.
- 3 · Check the lead form's company question is set to Company under The answer goes to, and that the lead submitted after you set it.
Client company shows the wrong company
- 1 · A lead form never replaces a saved Company. Open the contact, click Edit contact, change Company and click Save changes.
- 2 · Check the project uses the contact you expect.
